Drew Pearce Says The Other Ghostbusters Is Still Happening

Update: Original Ghostbusters director and continuing producer Ivan Reitman has now added his voice to that of Drew Pearce... in a slightly more forthright manner. "There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the Ghostbusters franchise," he tells Uproxx. "As the producer of the new Ghostbusters film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new Ghostbusters movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise.” If you've been following the saga of the Ghostbusters rebootquel, you'll know that as well as the Paul Feig / Melissa McCarthy / Kristen Wiig incarnation, there's also been talk of another film, in a bigger-picture, Marvel-type connected universe stylee. Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt were both mentioned in connection with the project, although Tatum and Pratt have both said they're not doing it. Now, writer and overseer Drew Pearce (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Iron Man 3) has clarified what's going on, and at least confirmed that this mooted other Ghostbusters is still in the works. "Obviously it’s top secret," Pearce told MTV, "but there’s a gigantic bold idea that I came up with." He continued that Pratt and Tatum are "definitely the cast we've been thinking about as we approach the project. Whether that happens or not is very much above my pay grade. It's just my job to give them something exciting that maybe they'll do." So it's being written with those guys in mind, but they remain far from attached. Pearce has since taken to Twitter with a couple of further nuggets, saying that he's written a TV series-style "Bible" for the possible extended Ghostbusters franchise, but the script for this second film doesn't yet exist. Addressing the ridiculous internet controversy around Feig's oh-so-horrifying cast of talented comedic actresses and SNL veterans, he added, "For the record, my GB idea has a mixed gender team. Also ghosts of all classes (I to VII). It's very inclusive that way." His "gigantic bold idea" is now in the hands of the Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War) and original Ghostbusters honcho Ivan Reitman, who will "take it and run with it. Hopefully in one year's time you'll know more." Separate, interconnected Ghostbusting concessions across New York? Across America? Across the world? See you here next July. In the meantime, says Pearce, "Chill your boots..."

New Irish art

Renowned street artist James Earley has set about making the fair city even fairer by painting a spectacular mural on City Quay, Dublin 2.
The finished image depicts a vibrant and proud Irish wolfhound against a background that features landmarks such as The Spire, The Ha'penny Bridge and The Guinness Storehouse.

The mural's stained glass style is a personal touch of Earley's, whose ancestors owned and operated a stained glass business on Camden Street for over a hundred years until it closed down in the 1970s.
Earley's uncanny ability to infuse Ireland's heritage, and his own, into wonderful works of art is something special, and we wouldn't mind seeing a few more of his endeavours around the city.

This is supposedly the new German away kit for Euro 2016.

Germany and adidas are a match made in heaven. Rarely, if ever have they come up with a design we didn't like, be it the home or away jersey.
That might be about to change though. Italian footie journalist Tancredi Palmeri tweeted this picture and we are now questioning our existence.

So this is a driving range in Ireland

Well, it's fair to say this driving range has seen better days.


"I went there last night - I hadn't been there in years," David tells us.
"Seems this recession has hit everyone hard. Pun intended. I walked in and couldn't believe what I was seeing but then thought to myself, 'maybe this is normal?'
"There were other guys just hitting balls away and sheep jumping and dodging like it was part of their daily life. So I thought if you can't beat then join 'em. I didn't hit one sheep. I'm not sure if that's a reflection on how good or bad I am. I'll leave that to you to decide."

Badger Drunk

It's a tale most of us can relate to.

This little badger is getting some rest and recuperation after skulling a serious amount of drink in Poland.
The badger, named Wandzia, was found on the beach surrounded by seven empty beer bottles with two more in a nearby bush. Living the wildlife, wha'? (I can't find my coat. Where did I leave my coat? Anyone?)
Wandzia was knocked out cold for two days after the binge but is set to be reintroduced into the wild by the end of the week. She's off the drink now, never doing that again, never ever ever, etc.

The story goes that she stole the beer from a nearby party and pulled the caps off with her teeth. Hardcore.

Arnie does not approve.

Actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has weighed in heavily on the subject of lion-killing, taking to his various social media accounts to specify that it is neither brave nor ballsy to kill a big cat.
Schwarzenegger is promoting the 5ForBigCats movements which is encouraging people to donate a fiver to National Geographic's Big Cats Initiative.


Schwarzenegger, famous for his role as The Terminator, has suggested that anyone who wants to prove their courage could do so more appropriately by joining the military, protecting big cats or, most dangerous of all, fighting Ireland's own Conor McGregor.

There has been widespread disdain for the actions of Walter Palmer, an American dentist who lured Cecil, a Zimbabwean lion, out of the safety of his sanctuary in order to wound him with a bow and arrow before finishing him off a day later.
American TV host Jimmy Kimmel made an emotional plea for people to give money to Oxford's Wildlife Conservation Research Unit, which has been wildly successful. The Unit has raised over £100,000 in the last 24 hours.

Young players to watch this season

Jordan Ibe (Liverpool):

The Liverpool winger has been a source of pride for the most avid Reds fans for a few years now. His development couldn’t come at a better time with Raheem Sterling now gone to City. Ibe ,19, is fast, strong and can skip past defenders with ease as he demonstrated during a loan spell at Derby last year.

With his keen sense of balance, agility and a delicate touch, many Liverpool fans, including Reds legend John Aldridge, believe the youngster has more potential than Sterling, whose touch has been less than perfect at times and his shooting erratic to say the least.

“I think he’s got as much, if not more, potential than Raheem and will go on to be a better player,” said the former Reds striker.

Liverpool have signed some top attacking talent so far this summer such as James Milner and Roberto Firmino and they have been linked with more such as Lyon’s Lacazette and Villa striker Christian Benteke.

With the new arrivals keen to nail down a starting place it remains to be seen if Ibe will be given much playing time. However, Ibe has shone for Liverpool’s youth teams for many years and if the young winger is given an opportunity, don’t be surprised to see him seize it with both hands and not let go.



James Wilson (Manchester United):

Wilson, who is just seven days older than Ibe, has already proven his quality at Old Trafford, scoring twice on his debut against Hull at the end of the 2013/14 season. The young striker started three Premier League games last season, netting three times.

With the departure of Robin Van Persie, Wilson will be keen to show Van Gaal he’s got what it takes to replace the Dutchman. With Wilson’s eye for goal, pace and attacking intuition, he looks the ideal replacement for Van Persie.

There is no doubt that Wilson has the talent to go all the way. The question remains, can he nail down a place in the team this season or will he be restricted to coming off the bench? He is certainly one to watch.

Reece Oxford (West Ham):

The young Hammer was coveted by the Premier League’s top clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United until he recently signed a new contract at Upton Park. He became West Ham’s youngest ever player when, at just 16 years and 198 days, he started in midfield in the Hammers’ 3-0 Europa League first qualifying round win over Lusitans.

Despite being called a defensive player, Oxford looked composed in the West Ham midfield. His calm demeanour on the ball and ability to pick out a pass made West Ham fans purr as they watched their young star flourish on the European stage.

Oxford showed his versatility later in the game, dropping back to centre half. With his versatility and composure in both defence and midfield, Oxford looks set to be a future star. However, with West Ham’s calendar packed full of action at home and abroad this season, Oxford could be given an opportunity sooner than we think.
